Set Apart

Hattie’s first testimony as a set apart full-time missionary!

Hattie was set apart as a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints tonight around 7pm (MST). Her stake president, President Lewis, along with her father, James Carr, performed the blessing. While I was not able to attend in person, I had the pleasure of witnessing the setting apart from afar through FaceTime.  The Spirit was strong before, during, and after, as prayers were offered by two of her sisters – Emma and Megan – and as testimonies were shared from both of her parents – James and Shylo – along with  herself, and her stake president. It was a bitter-sweet moment for everyone as we said goodbye to a very dear daughter, sister, and best friend and said hello to the newest servant of the Lord. We will all miss her dearly, but we look forward to hearing about her adventures over the next year and a half.

“You have been set apart for your sacred calling with the promise that the Spirit will be given as you meet the requirements set by the Lord. Enjoying the gifts of the Spirit should be one of your most earnest desires.”

Setting Apart

Being set apart by my stake president and my Dad.

“The setting apart may be taken literally; it is a setting apart from sin, apart from the carnal; apart from everything which is crude, low, vicious, cheap, or vulgar; set apart from the world to a higher plane of thought and activity. The blessing is conditional upon faithful performance.”

The Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, ed. Edward L. Kimball [1982], 478
